Theo Kroon started business supplying Jacquard Cards and Embroidery Samples to the Apparel Industry in May 1973 in a workshop build behind his home in Avondale, trading as "Crown Embroidery Jacquard Cards". On 28 November 1975 his wife Shirley joined him and as the business expanded, an embroidery machine was purchased, staff was taken on in 1977 and Crown Embroidery Jacquard Cards started doing Contract Embroidery for the Apparel Industry in New Zealand.
  1977 was also the year that Crown Embroidery Jacquard Cards started supplying Jacquard Cards to the Industry in Australia.
  In 1981 the business expanded again. The name was reduced to "Crown Embroidery". A $90,000 Electronic Punching System with editing and full conversion capability was purchased.
Later that year Crown Embroidery purchased their first Electronic Multi-Head Embroidery Machine and moved into commercial premises located in White Swan Road, Mount Roskill, AUCKLAND.
  In 1989 the shop in Mount Roskill became to small and the business moved to a more central location at 376 Great North Road, Grey Lynn, AUCKLAND.
  Crown Embroidery was registered as a Limited Company in January 1990 and 1993 saw Crown Embroidery become the First New Zealand Embroidery Company to win a First Prize in the prestigious "Stitch-Off" Embroidery competition held in the U.S.A.
